Funeral for Judge James C Kumpe Draws Large Moulton Crowd
One of the largest crowds in Moulton attended the funeral of Judge J C Kumpe who died early Tuesday. Ministers Rev Guy F Ponder Rev R W Sides and Rev R L Quins led services at the home. Probate Judge W W Brandon of Tuscaloosa County gave a brief life sketch. Floral tributes arrived from near and far as the burial took place in a cemetery east of town.

After a year of work the Lawrence County High School commencement was opened in the auditorium with Dr. S. T. Siston of Tuscumbia preaching the commencement sermon. The recital Monday night, under Miss Gunn, drew a large audience. inter society contests were held. an annual play was scheduled. Thursday night marks closing exercises with diplomas. Ruby Black won the essay contest on The Open Door to the Future. Eugenia Gibson spoke for K W Q on Apologies for Idleness and won the debate. Clovis Bracken and Clark Weatherwax argued for the affirmative while Gordon Stephenson and Previtt Holland defended the Lees. judges were Rev J W Jones, Rev R W Sides, and Mr Clarence Gillespie.

At press time no successor to the late Judge J. C. Kumpe had been appointed by the governor. J. Ernest Kumpe and C. M. Sherrod of Courtland are the only known applicants. An hourly appointment was expected. The appointee will serve until the November 12 election for the unexpired term. Both men plan to seek the Democratic nomination in August.
