J A Rountree secretary of the United States Good Roads Association travels Alabama to gather endorsements for good roads laws and convoy convict labor on public highways. He meets automobile dealers and local officials in Morgan Madison Jackson Limestone Lawrence Colbert and Lauderdale counties and plans to visit all counties this week. The drive is backed by the US Good Roads Association and Alabama groups seeking highway tax reform and broader motor vehicle regulation.
One hundred forty six Lawrence County men who turned 21 since last June registered for military service with the local board at the Court House last Wednesday. Registrants include 116 white and 30 colored men. most will be placed in Class One and called to serve after questionnaires are filed. The list reads like a cross section of towns including Town Creek Courtland Hillsboro Moulton Trinity Danville and others with numerous surnames such as Hagood Parker Hagood Bracken McCaughren and many more.

The National War Savings Committee designates June 28 as War Savings Day and urges every American to buy War Savings Stamps. Stamps cost 25 cents each and earn 4 percent compound interest, maturing in 1933. Individual holdings are capped at one thousand dollars and stamps can be cashed with ten days notice at any post office. The government aims to sell two billion dollars in stamps and asks citizens to oversubscribe.
Hon W W Callahan announces Saturday he is a full fledged candidate for Congress from the Eighth District opposing Edward B Almon. A Decatur attorney born near Moulton, Callahan is a Lawrence County native who previously ran against Almon, carried Lawrence County, and vows a vigorous district canvass and strong representation if elected.

Luna Ponder Mackey nee Luna Ponder, born June 10 1877, widow of W B Mackey, died at her father's Sulphur home after illness. She leaves her parents Dr and Mrs A V Ponder and sister Mrs W G Wiley. Funeral held June 6 at her father’s home with Rev B T Lanzom. She was member of Presbyterian then Methodist church.
The Local Red Cross ladies plan a barbecue and auction at Prince's Peak ture in Moulton on Saturday June 15. Carraway and Judge Sherrod lead barbecue efforts as crowds from across Lawrence County are invited to donate calves, pigs, eggs, quilts, and more for Red Cross proceeds. Junior Red Cross will supervise refreshment stands as donations are welcomed at Mrs A J Crosswall or Dr G M Carraway.
