Two Morris Seniors Reach Merit Scholarship Semifinals
Two Morris County High School seniors William G Haas and Kay E Lindsay have been named among about 14 000 semifinalists in the 1966 67 National Merit Scholarship competition. semifinalists are top scorers on the NMSQT and may become finalists through school endorsements a second exam and achievement data. Finalists will be announced in May 1967 with four year stipends. about 97 percent of semifinalists reach finalist status.

The U S Weather Bureau warns of partly cloudy skies tonight with a chance of rain by morning and a low in the lower 50s. Thursday will be cloudy with a chance of rain and a high near 70, followed by partly cloudy conditions Friday. The Collins Weather Station logged a Tuesday high of 67 and a low of 38, with 9 am readings at 50 and 11:30 am at 63 in Morris downtown.

Killer Storm Inez Plows Caribbean Destroys Five Lives
Hurricane Inez roared through Guadeloupe killing at least five and causing massive damage as it neared Puerto Rico and aimed toward the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Tropical Storm Judith formed far east, with winds near 45 mph, forecast to strengthen and move toward Windward Islands.

Helmet Found Linked To $8000 Jewel Robbery at Coachlite Manor
Grundy County Sheriff reports discovery of one orange construction helmet used by robbers in the Coachlite Manor jewel theft. The helmet was found in weeds 30 to 40 feet from the getaway car location in a corn field east of Lumpp's Nursery, near Coachlite Manor. Detectives also recall tips about green coveralls spotted near Interstate 80 and Illinois 47, but the coveralls were not recovered. A three inch roll of adhesive tape was later found in a ditch.

Eleven Guilty in Illinois Seven Gables Gambling Case
Eleven defendants pleaded guilty in a long running Illinois case against William Spellisy owner of the Seven Gables. All but Spellisy were fined 100 dollars each plus costs. Spellisy received a 500 dollar fine plus costs and an injunction restricting gambling. Two cases were dismissed for lack of evidence. The trial followed precedent set in a Cassiday case.

28 Students Enroll in Morris ICEP Program
Morris Community High School begins the Interrelated Cooperative Education Program to provide 28 students mostly seniors with combined classroom and on the job training. Twenty six local firms participate, with students working in 19 occupations from retail to nursing and auto repair under teacher supervision and paid wages.
