Agnew seeks injunction as grand jury opens inquiry

A special federal grand jury began hearing evidence in Baltimore on possible tax bribery extortion and conspiracy by Vice President Spiro Agnew. Attorney Judah Best said a temporary injunction may be filed next week to block the probe.

Grundy County Planning Commission backs school site ordinance

The Grundy County Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend adoption of a county wide school site ordinance to the County Board. Burglary Charges Filed In Coal City Doctor’s Office Theft

Associate Judge Robert Wren signed warrants for the arrest of David C. Munsey and William Sanders on burglary and theft charges. Police say the Coal City doctor’s office of Dr. Roman Smyk was broken into at 7 50 am Tuesday, with 35000 amphetamine and barbiturate pills and other medicines stolen plus syringes and pills. Bail set at 20000 dollars.

Hearing Closed In Grundy County For Pretrial Evidence

Circuit Judge Robert Malmquist ordered a Wednesday pretrial hearing on a motion by State's Atty Richard Wilder to admit confessions of Richard Vaughn and Thiris Smith as evidence to be held behind closed doors. Vaughn Smith and a 15-year-old Joliet youth are charged in a July 12 case involving a July 9 throat slashing of a hitchhiker near Minooka. The judge cited potential prejudice and admissibility questions and ordered the courtroom sealed with a note that a transcript will be released after the trial.

The Morris Police Department announced directives for Sunday's Corn Festival. Vehicles must be removed from Liberty Street from the tracks to Illinois Avenue. no parking near Chapin Park. parade lineup vehicles only. Palermiti Sues Over Fire Damages At Regional Medical Facility

Leon P. Palermiti filed a $5,000 lawsuit in Grundy County Circuit Court against Gerald Bitner and John B. Smith Jr. for damage to the Southeast Grundy County Medical Facility and related property caused by fire and explosives. The case cites burglary and arson indictments connected to the Nov. 29, 1972 incidents at the Boodlers Drive-in and the medical center. A Morris Public Library Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday in the staff room.
