Food costs push Chicago area prices higher in August
Chicago area living costs rose 0.5 percent in August from July while the 12 month increase reached 2.9 percent, matching the national figure. The CPI stood at 125.0 with average August expenditures at 10.29 compared to 10.00 a year earlier, driven largely by a 1.3 percent rise in food costs and a 0.6 percent rise in transportation. Housing costs edged up 0.2 percent while health and recreation fell 0.2 percent from July but were up 3.3 percent year over year.
