Edison plans Collins Station power plant at Goose Lake
Commonwealth Edison aims to start site work in November pending licenses for a 2.5 million kilowatt oil fueled plant in Goose Lake Township. Initial construction could begin early next year with about 1,500 workers. project cost exceeds 500 million dollars including a 20 million dollar cooling lake. Hearings by the Illinois Commerce Commission and required EPA and other permits must proceed before major work. A separate burglary at Limbach and Co. on Douglas Street involved tools and a damaged cash register valued at 1,600 dollars. The station’s first units are slated for 1976 and 1977 with full completion by 1978, featuring a 3.5 mile by 1 mile cooling lake, river water make up, and complex regulatory compliance.

Collision injures eight in Dwight area school bus crash
A truck and school bus collision five miles east of Dwight at Illinois 17 and a gravel road left eight injured, six of them Dwight area school children. Bus driver Laverne Feddersen and seven students were treated and released at St. James Hospital Pontiac. The stop sign and vehicles sustained damage.

Suspect Flees After Burglary Arrest Attempt
Grundy County Sheriff seeks Kenneth Edison 26 of Gardner and Kathleen Edison 18 after a deputy attempted to take them into custody on burglary charges. A 19 year old Calumet City woman is also sought. Investigators link the trio to a June 14 burglary at Illinois 129 and Carbon Hill Road that netted four rolls of carpeting and several drapes valued at about 1400 dollars. Rossio of Gardner Development Corp. reported seeing drapes in a Gardner home and prosecutors obtained permission to search the residence. The Edison couple are named in the case with others involved in the theft.

The 24th annual Grundy County Corn Festival unfolds next weekend with the Corn Show at First National Bank of Morris judged Saturday morning and open Saturday afternoon and Sunday before the parade.
