Heavy rains overwhelmed three pumps built in 1933 north of the cooling lake runoff area, lifting water to the Kankakee River. Edison plans repairs after one unit was finished. the issue troubled a watershed once managed by the Illinois Division of Waterways.

About 2 50 Morris Community High and Morris Grade School music students sold nearly 3800 Corn Festival buttons Tuesday night. Ten cents per button, 20 percent of proceeds totaling 380 will be shared by the two school music departments. The sales pass one third of 1971 totals, with more outlets still selling buttons.
Mothers of World War II announce annual poinsettia sale Friday to raise funds for veterans across 10 Illinois hospitals. Dresden Island Locks and Dam recorded 72 for the high and 49 for the low Thursday. At 7 am today the temperature was 50 degrees and downtown at 11 am it was 70.
Joseph Hemmersback reported the theft of ten stereo tapes valued at 40 to 45 dollars from an unlocked car on Liberty Street Thursday afternoon. He parked his 1963 Dodge at Redfern's Hardware at 3 50 p m with the doors unlocked and window lowered, planning to watch from Weitz Cafe, and found the tapes missing at 4 15 p m.
Alderman William Singer and 58 independents who challenged the Daley delegation at the Democratic National Convention face a trial on November 20. Judge Daniel Covelli ordered the contempt case and barred the Singer group from seats, noting appeals to higher courts including the Supreme Court are planned. The independents argued Daley lacked proper reflection of city Democrats.
