A public meeting is set for 7:30 p m next Monday at the Saratoga School gym to discuss a proposed referendum for a new middle school in the Saratoga School District. The project would cost about 985000 including construction equipment and fees, raising taxes by about 48 5 cents per 1000 assessed value.
Dennis Hackett to serve as Grundy County 1974 Cancer Crusade Chairman announced at the American Cancer Society fall dinner. Hackett, assistant vice president of First National Bank Morris, resides with wife Jane and two children. Crusade goal set at 13574 dollars.
Citizens from the fourth ward opposed City Council action after passing a resolution creating a public building commission. Second Ward alderman Jay Heap described an infernal meeting at the Holiday Inn called by the Grundy County National Bank to discuss procuring outcomes, noting bond referendums are often defeated. Crupi heads the United Fund industrial section in Grundy County and urges management and employees to support Fair Share giving. Campaign chairman Herb Wyeth Jr. schedules division chairmen meetings at the Morris Holiday Inn with final report on November 19 at the Farm Bureau Building.
House Speaker Carl Albert said all impeachment related resolutions will be sent to the House Judiciary Committee for quick consideration. Grundy County taxpayers who feel their real estate taxes are unfair can appear in Grundy County Circuit Court on Monday for judgment day. The treasurer explains it is a tax filing event, not a land sale, with delinquent taxes due by November 13 and redemption options at 12 percent interest plus a $3 certificate fee.
Salvation Army schedules a Morris drive starting Monday with routes east and west of Liberty Street and areas north of Rock Island tracks. A collection center is at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for clothing appliances furniture and utensils. Kay notes no overstuffed furniture and requests items be kept separate from garbage.
