Fiery Peoria crash kills 16 on Chicago & Southern plane
A Chicago & Southern Airlines twin engine turboprop crashed near Peoria Airport killing 16 including the airline president Frank Hansen. The craft struck 75 foot power lines two miles west of the airport in rain and fog. The victims included Chicago lawyers and state agency executives en route to Springfield. FAA and IEPA investigations ensued with a temporary morgue established and a safety board report later noted prior incidents and complaints about the airline.
