Krone Named State Representative in 20th District Chicago

Philip S. Krone of Chicago is appointed state representative for the 20th district to fill the vacancy created by the death of Rep. Granata. The appointment follows a new law empowering a district GOP committee to choose a replacement rather than awaiting elections. The vacancy in the 54th District for Rep. Grundy County jury cases wrap up four weeks of service

Circuit Judge Leonard Hoffman announced the full call of Grundy County general division jury cases. Forty three cases were set for hearing with 35 disposed of and two ending in long trials. Eight cases filed before 1973 pend and were stricken from the current call. Hoffman will return to LaSalle County for trials and later call Bureau County docket in Princeton.

Coal City to vote on police board and civil service status

The Coal City Village Board set November 6 for a special election to select a board of police commissioners in response to a September petition seeking civil service status for the police. The board also approved a garbage contract with M. Sorensen Disposal, raising the monthly charge to water users from 1.73 to 2.68, appointed James A. White of Morris as patrolman, and announced bids for a 1974 police car due by October 22.
