James L. Ruddy named assistant vice president of First National Bank of Morris announced by president William B. Norton. Santa to Arrive Here Nov 25 in Morris

Morris plans reveal Santa Claus arrival on November 25 the day after Thanksgiving with a parade to mark the event. Stores will stay open December 9 evenings for Christmas shoppers as new decorations ordered shipped will be hung by Thanksgiving and lit on November 25. Direct Distance Dialing will take effect Sunday December 4 in Morris Lisbon Verona Newark Mazon Dwight Coal City and Gardner enabling station to station long distance calls. Touch Tone dialing will be offered in Morris and Dwight with a modest charge and requires linking to a new automatic message accounting unit and the national DDD network.

First Frost Reported in Grundy County Area

Grundy County saw the first frost of the year as temperatures fell below freezing on Wednesday night. ASCS office manager Richard Finkbein says some gardens and flowers were damaged but crops were not harmed and may dry out. A reporter noted frost in Saratoga Township damaged unharvested tomatoes and may affect canning. Overnight lows elsewhere included 36 at Midway, 35 at Peoria, 30 at Rockford, 34 at Springfield, and 32 at East Dubuque.

Man Killed in Essex Gunfight

A quarrel led to a farm gunfight near Essex in Kankakee County. John Russell died, and Grace Russell and Earl B. Scott were wounded. all treated and released from St Joseph's Hospital Joliet. Authorities say Russell fired first. Scott felled him with two shots after Mrs Russell and Scott were shot. The incident involved Fisher auto body plant workers and stemmed from a custody dispute over Russell and Mrs Russell’s nine month old daughter.

Increase in State Aid for Schools in Grundy County

Seneca Driver Injured in U S 6 Truck Crash

A Seneca man, Floyd E. Zehr, 38, was injured at 10 a m when his pickup with a fertilizer trailer overturned on U S 6 five and one half miles west of Morris He was listed in fair condition at Morris Hospital under observation for chest injuries The truck was towed from the scene by Olson s Sinclair witnesses included Mrs Art Hustis and Mrs Gerald Fisher both of Marseilles

Three Seneca Lads Injured In Accident

Three Seneca High School seniors were injured when a car collided with a Brockman disposal truck at Scott and Main in Seneca. Driver John Wheeler 17 was thrown and pinned. passengers Mike Mann and Mike Brown 17 were uninjured in the car. All were taken to Ryburn Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. Wheeler remained unconscious.
