Harvest help needed at Goose Lake Prairie seed harvest
Park Ranger Joe Nyhoff launches Operation Seed Harvest at Goose Lake Prairie State Park to collect prairie grass seeds by hand, aiming for about one ton of Indian Grass Big Blue and Little Blue seeds to replant buffer areas and aid conservation. Volunteers are invited to assist with bags, drying and planting, with waterproofing and mosquito repellent advised.

In fiscal year ended June 30, 5,523 samples from 618 stations were tested for dissolved oxygen and fecal coliform. The Pine Bluff Road bridge site recorded 8,127 units per 100 ml, well above the 200 unit standard.

Twelve plead guilty to mail fraud scheme
A former Chicago woman and 11 others pleaded guilty to mail fraud in a Social Security checks scheme. Sally Kelly, 26, a former SSA claims examiner, admitted issuing 48 checks to acquaintances totaling up to $8,000 each.
