Grundy County farmer Wayne Boss 47 suffered a heart attack five weeks ago and a community effort of friends and neighbors harvested 101 acres of soybeans on his 360 acre farm near Mazon. Volunteers, led by Bols, will husk his 245 acre corn crop by month end. Boss, a former deputy and fair worker, now runs the farm by phone awaiting a spring return to work.

APSA to Close St. Louis Plant By First of Year
The Army Ammunition Procurement and Supply Agency announced the St. Louis Army ammunition plant will deactivate by Jan 1, 1970 due to reduced artillery shell production. About 2,900 GM contractor workers and 4,600 total staff will be relocated as needed. The plant opened in 1942, was rebuilt postwar, reactivated in 1951, 1966, and now winds down.
