Police crack down as 150 youths held at Babler State Park

About 150 youths aged 15 to 20 were arrested at Babler State Park during Memorial Day weekend on suspicion of possessing marijuana or alcohol as minors. Two were also booked on weapon charges after guns were found in a car. Protesters gathered near the park entrance after a week with a fatal pedestrian incident.

River Grove Man Killed in Grundy and Kendall County Crashes

Over Memorial Day weekend a River Grove man died in a Grundy County crash and four others injured in Kendall County. Carl E. Dial, 49, of River Grove died at the scene after his car collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Beverly J. Robinson, 45, of Gardner. Robinson was treated at St. Joseph Hospital Joliet. A separate Kendall County crash at US 52 and Lisbon Road sent four people to Morris Hospital, including Aileen Forsberg and Jeannette Buchanan of Rockford. Cannon of Rockford was cited for failure to reduce speed. Six more were taken to St. Joseph Hospital after a two car I-55 crash near Gardner Road. The fatalities and injuries prompted inquest arrangements and funeral plans for Dial in Decatur Illinois.

Massive southwest Chicago fire causes enormous damage

A Sunday blaze in a southwest Side industrial area damaged four buildings with estimates ranging from 30 to 50 million dollars. Fire officials and insurers cautioned the final loss would require weeks of accounting. Four people were injured, and investigators cited possible lightning as the ignition with a security guard recalling a loud thunderstorm before the blast.

Memorial Day Service Parade Returns to Courthouse Route

Memorial services were held Monday with a parade from Center School to the courthouse. The Morris Grade School Band played as American Legion Post 294 leaders welcomed attendees. The Rev.
