Dense fog blamed for chain of four vehicle crashes

A morning fog on Grand Ridge Road caused a sequence of five crashes involving four cars and a semi. The first head on collision at 5:55 a.m. damaged the Cardell car carrying a baby who was later X-rayed at Morris Hospital. no other injuries were reported.

PTA President Blames Parents For Problems

Baltimore AP The National Congress of Parents and Teachers president blamed adults for giving adolescents too much power and not enough responsibility. Horsemanship Course Open to Grundy 4-H Members

The first meeting for Grundy County 4-H Horsemanship begins at 7 30 p m on Wednesday in the Farm Bureau auditorium Waco Alberts of the University of Illinois will teach horse knowledge feeding management and health. Weather outlook with mild period and showers ahead

The Weather Bureau predicts fair and cooler tonight with a low in the mid 40s. Tuesday stays mild with increasing clouds and showers possible in the afternoon, high in the upper 60s. Fatal Crash Near Gardner Claims 19-Year-Old Airman

A 19 year old airman on leave from Chanute Field died in a crash on Interstate 55 three miles south of the Gardner overpass. Jackie Starkey of McLean died at Morris Hospital after a car driven by Larry E. Schumm veered off the road and struck a concrete culvert. Schumm, also 19 and from McLean, was in satisfactory condition with facial lacerations. The two had been returning from a dance in Wisconsin when the crash occurred early Saturday.

Selma Police Report More Shots Fired

Three gunshots hit a house once owned by Wilson Baker who is in a tight Dallas County sheriff race with James G. Clark. No injuries were reported as FBI and police probed a likely night shooting from a passing vehicle near Lockett’s home.
