Prisoners Injured After Falls At County Jail

Two inmates were injured when a stair collapse occurred at the Grundy County Jail. Lester Sellers, 35, and Chris Bermingham, 22, received hospital treatment with Sellers in Joliet and Bermingham in Morris. Sellers facing indecent liberties charges. Bermingham bonded at 20,000 each.

Grundy County Jail Repairs Planned After Investigation

The Jail and Courthouse Committee and Grundy County Board chairmen released a statement after meeting Sheriff William Button about the May 3 jail accident. Repairs will be made promptly. a three year study of jail conditions is under way with an architect under contract since May 1971. Preliminary plans require state approval before county submission.

Weather outlook with mild growth in temperatures

The forecast calls for sunny and warmer conditions today with a high near 58 to 65 and a fair cool night with a low in the upper 30s. Saturday should bring mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures with highs 66 to 72. Thursday reported a high of 56 at the Dresden Island Locks and Dam and a low of 3, with 7am readings at 39 and downtown Morris at 10:30 am at 56.

Roger V Crosman of Braidwood, former officer in charge at Coal City, chosen by Regional Management Selection Board for permanent postmaster. He previously led Braidwood post from 1964 to 1972, served in the U S Navy 1954 1958 and worked as a police day patrolman in Braidwood for three years. He and wife Jeannene Bergman of Crest Hill reside in Braidwood with their son Roger II.

Convict Morris of murder in Kendall County case

A Kendall County jury found David Morris guilty on two counts of murder in the Jan 22 slaying of Donald Kirklin of Aurora. Homer Couch was found not guilty on a third count of intent to kill. The body was found north of Plano along Miller Road. Judge Rex Meilinger will sentence Morris later.

Morris Public Library Board Meeting Final Building Report

The Morris Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 8 p.m. Monday in the staff room to review annual reports and a final architectural report on the proposed building plan. Student architects involved in the project will present their final findings.

Kinsman Wins Condemnation Land for Water Works

The Village of Kinsman obtained four lots in Block 9 via condemnation to expand its water works. Circuit Judge Robert J. Malmquist exempted Lots 1 through 4 from Grundy County taxes and ordered Kinsman to pay J C Grobe 101.87, the gap between fair market value and forfeited taxes. Kinsman must also pay Grundy County 841.31 for forefeited taxes on Lots 1 2 and 3.
