Aldermen question state license, fees, and control for selling beer at William G. Stratton State Park and Gebhard Woods concession. City leaders seek written guidance from state agencies, contemplate local fees, and worry about possible court action if legality is unresolved.
Four people were injured and two remained hospitalized after weekend accidents in Grundy County. Dwight man Stephen Wickenhauser, 31, was hurt when his motorcycle hit a car on Illinois 113. his wife Shirley was also taken to St Joseph Hospital but not treated. Gerald Daniels, 48, of Wilmington, stopped for a turning car and collided with Wickenhauser. Pogliano and Cushing were involved in another Illinois 113 incident. an Indianapolis woman, Mary Kuhn, was treated at Morris Hospital after a car-semi crash on Illinois 47 at Goodfarm Road. Nicholas Pawlowski Jr. was ticketed for disobeying a stop sign after a two-vehicle crash at Illinois 47 and 113. several drivers sustained damage and minor injuries.
Grundy County votes reset its special primary to September 14 after Illinois Attorney General guidance specified the seven week gap before the general election. Acting Clerk Lana Phillips will serve until a new interim clerk is chosen by the Democratic committee.
Weather tonight fair and cold with freezing temperatures. Tuesday mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the 60s to 70s. Weekend at Dresden Island locks and Dam saw a high of 65 and a low of 38 on Saturday. Sunday’s high 52 and low 33. Early morning readings 35 at 7 a.m. and 44 in Morris at 9 a.m. Precipitation totaled .16 inches this period and 3.18 inches for April. April 17 reached 93 degrees and April 12 fell to 20. ESDA Morris reported Sunday’s low 34 and high 49. Barometric pressure 29.91 and rising, humidity 72 percent.
The Grundy County sheriff investigates weekend thefts from two homes. Kenneth Shelton, 27, is sought in connection with more than 1100 dollars of items stolen from Thomas Ross on U.S. 6 near Morris. A Batavia girl, 19, died in a Yorkville car truck crash on Illinois 47 near Illinois 126, with Eddie Williams unhurt.
Bobby Cargill of Lockport sues Dr Farid Afra and Morris Hospital for 100000 alleging missed middle ear fracture diagnosis and calf infection that progressed to gangrene causing paralysis. Trial before Judge Leonard Hoffman in Grundy County Court. Cargill injured July 18 1973 at Illinois 47 and White Willow Road. hospitalized nine and a half weeks.
Attorney Frank Black 1250 Lisbon St was approved as Morris city attorney by the Morris City Council at its first meeting of the 1976 77 fiscal year. Black 26 will replace James Peacock who served since 1973 and announced his resignation at the April 26 meeting. Black admitted to the bar April 17 1974 and joined his family firm Black and Black after Lewis University and Illinois College of Law. He is not the first Black in the post his uncle John Black served 1941 49.
Donald Davidson Sr as mayor dedicated full time to duties after leaving Federal Paper Board Co where he spent 36 years. The Morris figure, 65, reflected on varied roles from time keeper to sales service and Beaudaux bonus system work, while planning time for family and civic duties.
At Palmer Dam in Yorkville a lightweight canoe capsized about 8 am Saturday. Richard Savino, 19, of West Chicago drowned. Noel Sorensen, 26, also of West Chicago, is missing and presumed drowned. Ottawa Rescue Squad recovered Savino’s body. search for Sorensen continued by Bristol Kendall Fire Dept with plans to resume. John Dunn reported the accident to Yorkville police.
Francis J. Cunningham aged 51 of Minooka was slightly injured when his Toyota struck a parked semi trailer at the Intersta te 55 US 6 intersection near Channahon Standard Station. He was taken to St Joseph Hospital Joliet by Tri County Ambulance and released later that morning.
Secretary Earl L. Butz said he would welcome more Soviet purchases of American grain and predicted food inflation could fall to 3 or 4 percent this year if weather is average. He cited ample farm supplies and lower grain prices as factors, noting Soviet orders added 4.3 million metric tons and lifted 1975 crop sales to 16.2 million tons with 1.9 million for 1976 crop deliveries.
