Morris School Voting Sites and Precincts Announced

The Morris Community High School and Morris Elementary boards announced polling locations and precincts for the April 9 elections. High School district 101 divides into four precincts with Franklin School Nettle Creek Consolidated School Saratoga Precinct and Wauponsee Town Hall as polling sites. Elementary district 54 precincts at Franklin School north of the river and a south of river site. Polls will open at noon and close at 7 p.m.

License Expected Within 2 Weeks for Grundy County Rest Home

Renewal papers for the Grundy County Rest Home license were sent to Springfield. Officials expect issuance within 10 days or two weeks despite confusion over the renewal delay. Nursing director Mrs. Bonnie Murphy said operations can continue at full capacity and accept patients as before. one new admission has brought the total to 45 residents.

Experts Split Over Standby Tax Increase Plan

The Senate House Economic Committee debated a standby tax increase to curb inflation. Four economists divided, two against two, on immediate tax hikes while agreeing income taxes should rise someday. The panel endorsed immediate design and enactment of a standby tax program triggered by joint resolution.

School Hearing On Bond Issue March 24

A public hearing is set for 7 45 p m at Franklin School on Thursday March 24 to discuss the District 54 bond issue and building program. Dr Barry Seng president of the board will present with Avery Jacobek from Childs and Smith assisting. An April 9 special election will seek voter approval for a 1 400 000 bond to fund a new building south of the Illinois River a new middle school and an addition to Garfield School.

Fourth Petition Taken for Morris Community High Board

A fourth petition for election to the Morris Community High School Board of Education was filed Thursday morning by Harold J. Benning of 223 Robinson Drive, according to secretary Gladys Bright. Two members will be elected on April 9. Three petitions have already been filed by Henry Smith Arden Chapple and Raymond Christensen.

Plan for Handicapped Children's Survey in Grundy County

An eight member advisory committee formed to draft a county plan under House Bill 1407 will begin a survey next month to count handicapped children. Kenneth Langford and John Evans spoke on the bill. Kenneth Hammer was elected president. Meadors named members and set a tentative April 20 meeting.

Morris Elementary Board Sets Special Election For Bonds

The Morris Elementary Board of Education adopted a resolution calling a special election on April 9 in District 54 to issue 1.4 million dollars in bonds for two new schools and an addition to Garfield School. Precincts and polling places were set Franklin School for precinct 1 and Waubonsie Township Hall for precinct 2. Polls run noon to 7 p.m. The board also hired the Ottawa auditing firm Stisser Kurz and Teeham for 1966.

The U S Weather Bureau forecasts thundershowers tonight through Friday morning with a drop in temperatures. Highs are expected in the 50s Friday after a low near 50 tonight. Collins Weather Station recorded 61 Wednesday with a night low of 40 and 58 at 9 am.

Gemini 8 astronauts rescued after dangerous space emergency

The Gemini 8 mission ends in a dramatic Pacific splashdown near Okinawa after a violent in space spin. Neil Armstrong and David Scott were rescued by the destroyer Leonard F. Mason and later flown to Cape Kennedy to report on the incident.

vandals break store window at Redfern's Hardware

Two concrete pieces were hurled through the front plate glass of Redfern's Hardware and Appliance Co. at 214 Liberty St. Police found the damage at 5:55 a.m. on Wednesday night. A large hole was made in the north display window and an electric stove behind it was damaged. Glass shattered throughout the interior.
