Grundy County Board will hear monthly and quarterly reports from several agencies at the regular meeting scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the courthouse. Four killed in LaSalle accidents weekend toll rises
Four persons died in three LaSalle County crashes in a weekend. In Ottawa a 19 year old, a 21 year old, and a third victim perished when a 1975 Monte Carlo left Illinois 71, struck a tree, and then died at the scene. Two Ottawa residents were injured, one critically, others treated at local hospitals. A Streator man died when his car crashed through a building into a private pool nearby. In Rutland, a separate icy patch caused a two car collision that left a Chicago woman dead and three others hospitalized. Coroner Marion Osborne identified the fatalities and noted the time of death at the scene or hospital.

NRC rules on Sheffield shutdown delay
NRC staff told Nuclear Engineering Co that it cannot end its lease and abandon the Sheffield site without approval. The agency said only the NRC can terminate the operating license for the 20 acre disposal area where over 3 million cubic feet of radioactive waste is buried and that inspectors are examining possible license violations.
