Rescue 59 Survivors Evacuate Ashan Camp
U S Marine helicopters braved Communist fire to evacuate 59 survivors from the Ashan Special Forces camp on the Laotian frontier. Among those lifted were five crewmen from two downed choppers and Vietnamese and Montagnard troops including three women dependents. The operation followed a 39 hour battle that ended with a North Vietnamese victory.

Circuit Rider Loses Horse on U S Route 66 Mishap
The Rev. William W Richardson a 45 year old Methodist minister from Macksburg Iowa riding toward Baltimore Md lost his horse Thursday on U S 68 three miles southwest of Dwight when the horse jumped into the path of a passing truck after a train whistle frightened it He was uninjured and the horse died needful to be destroyed by Dr Robert Gay The minister planned to continue to Baltimore with a replacement horse arriving later today and is staying with Rev Walter Batty at the local parsonage.

Wisconsin Couple Killed in Madison Street Collision
An 18-year-old Dwight youth and a 17-year-old Madison woman died Thursday night when the Triumph car they rode in collided head on with an oncoming vehicle near the University of Wisconsin campus. Thomas J. Baima and Kathleen Ann Livermore perished at the scene. Baima was a Madison Business College student. Funeral arrangements were set for St. Patrick's Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Survivors include Baima's parents and a sister.
