Grundy County hires Leesburg sanitarian for health post

Robert Denig 45 of Leesburg Virginia is hired by the Grundy County Health Department Board to fill the sanitarian position vacated by Dr Hikes Cery and starts April 1. Denig holds a BA in pre medical sciences from Fairleigh Dickinson University Rutherford New Jersey and has taken post graduate courses at North Carolina State University. He is a member of the Virginia State Board of Sanitarians the National Environmental Health Association and the Metropolitan Swimming Pool Operators Association. Health Department Administrator Mrs William Mary Reed was authorized February 28 by the Grundy County Health Department Board to offer the 12000 per year job per the board selections committee.

Fourth Ward Sewer and Water Project Public Hearing

More than 30 attendees including property owners heard plans for a fourth ward special assessment to fund sanitary sewers along Union St Hoover St and U S 6. Costs run about 26 dollars per foot frontage with half paid by owners and six months to hook up. Options include 10 year payment with interest and possible annexation questions tied to future lines.

Wholesale prices surge tied to farm, food costs in Feb

Wholesale prices jumped 1.9 percent in February the largest rise since 1951 with farm products and processed foods up 3.9 percent the third big monthly gain. Industrial raw materials rose 1.1 percent while the overall index reached 126.9 base 1967 equal to 8.2 percent year over year.

Morris Rural Fire Fund Seeks $40,000 Truck

The Morris Rural Fire Protection Corp met at the fire station to review progress on a fund drive for a $40,000 fire truck. Attorneys report $26,200 on deposit with at least $2,000 more, and Northern Petrochemical has pledged $11,000 on delivery. Board, firefighters, and volunteers attended. donations continue through treasurer Hendley Matteson at local banks. Final meeting set for March 28.

Special meeting set on Morris ball park lease proposal

A Morris Grade School Board special meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at Franklin School will discuss a lease proposal for a ball park at Shabbona School. Grundy County Chamber of Commerce proposes investigating the location as a lighted park solution. Board President Mrs. Ronald Bell also announced the regular meeting moved to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin School.

AEC Sets March 20 Hearing on Nuclear Plant in La Salle County

The Atomic Energy Commission announced a March 20 evidentiary hearing in Marseilles Illinois on Commonwealth Edison proposed nuclear fueled electric generating station in La Salle County. The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will hear health and safety issues starting at 10 a.m. in the Mars Theater with invited public attendance. Limited oral statements five minutes each. Written statements accepted. Environmental evidence to be addressed at a separate hearing.
