Burglars Target Morris Gas Station and Savon Station

Police report two burglaries on Monday night at Morris gas station on Division Street and Savon station on N Division Street. Criminals forced a back door, took three cartons of king size cigarettes, a half gallon of chocolate milk and a .22 caliber pistol from the Morris site. a padlock casing was pried at the Savon station, where a back room containing oil barrels was accessed.

Electricity Outage Planned North of Morris

Commonwealth Edison Co. announces a power interruption for about one hour starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The affected area lies northeast of Morris from Illinois 47 to Tabler Road and within three quarters of a mile north and south of U.S. 6. Crews will revise the distribution system to improve reliability.

Witnesses Testimony Sparks Perjury Charge in Rose Burglary Case

Conflicting testimony from Hillard C. Rice led Grundy County Grand Jury to indict William Rose 24 and Ronald Rose 22 on perjury charges related to a February 9 burglary at Redfern’s Hardware. Fire Damage Closes Sponge Cushion Plant Temporarily

An oil burner at the Sponge Cushion plant on Armstrong Street burned out in a 5 a.m. fire after a fuel nozzle disconnected and backed up oil ignited. The plant shut down until a replacement burner is installed, with fire crews arriving from Morris and employees containing the blaze.

Extradition proceedings begun for Hooper in Morris case

State's Atty. Richard Wilder started extradition to return Charles C. Hooper 36 of Marseilles from Booneville Mississippi after a Grundy County Grand Jury indicted him on kidnapping aggravated kidnapping and attempted rape. Hooper is held on $80,000 total bonds.

Record U S jets lost as crews missing in Viet Nam action

Four U S jets were lost with the crews of three in the Viet Nam air war marked by heavy sorties against targets in the North. One F105 was hit by ground fire, a pilot bailed out and was rescued. two F101s disappeared and are missing in action.
