A Millington man Robert Gerlack aged 61 died at the scene after a collision with a northbound semi driven by John Beetstda 29 of Harvard on Illinois 47 at Walker Rd about 5 15 p m Thursday. Beetstda and his passenger Richard Sandberg 38 were treated and released from Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Gerlack s wife Perendy and four daughters survive along with four grandchildren two brothers and a sister. Services will be Sunday at 1 30 p m at Larson Gabel Funeral Home Newark with Jehovah Witnesses officiating. Burial will be in Millington Newark Cemetery. Memorials to Open Door in Sandwich.

Man fatally shot by police identified
Wayman Gates, 22, of Chicago, identified as the man killed when he attempted to run a roadblock near Dwight Thursday. Livingston County Coroner said Gates died from a hip gunshot wound that severed a major abdominal artery, with shock from bleeding listed as the cause. He died at 4:57 a.m. after being taken to St. James Hospital in Pontiac. Dwight police and Illinois State Police troopers reported attempting to stop Gates.

Man Hurt In 30 Foot Fall From Liberty St Roof
Morris man James Day, 38, of 1845 W Naomi Dr, suffered a jaw fracture and possible concussion after a 30 foot fall from the Frames Plus roof at 206 Liberty St. He was taken to Morris Hospital for observation in fair condition. Co worker Terry Cleeton said Day slipped while knocking icicles from the edge with an ax. Police noted wires pulled to the ground. owner Valerie Hatcher had hired C and C Roofing to remove ice and tangled wires.

U S 6 Improvement Plans Hearings Set in Seneca Area
The Illinois Department of Transportation schedules a public hearing on widening and resurfacing U.S. 6 from Illinois 170 in Seneca to five miles east, with two bridge reconstructions east of Seneca.
