Farmers protest 12 percent farm land assessment boost
More than 180 farmers packed Grundy County court as a two hour public hearing heard objections to a 1.12 equalization factor applied to farm lands and related property. Illinois officials Stanton Norris and Paul Sengpiehl outlined study methods while local officials defended the higher assessments and warned a 1.10 factor would be needed otherwise.

Pipe fitter suffers severe burns at Dresden nuclear site
Donald Sprague, 27, of Minooka, was badly burned when a mobile crane touched a 34 000 volt line at the Dresden plant eight miles east of Morris. He was moved first to St Joseph Hospital Joliet then to Cook County Hospital Burn Center. Crane operator A Borra was uninjured.
