Court annuls Catholic marriage in Illinois ruling
Illinois Court of Appeals reversed a Cook County ruling and annuled the 13 year marriage of James Wolfe and Judith Wolfe after finding fraudulent representations of religious beliefs. Wolfe testified he would not have married Judith if told her former husband was alive, undermining the marriage’s validity under Catholic teaching. The three judge panel described the fraud as going to the essence of the marriage, and Wolfe’s countersuit was upheld.
