Free Air Rides Led to Deaths
Four people died when a Rockwell Standard Corp air ride crashed into Lake Michigan after taking off from Meigs Field. George Philipps of Gary Indiana and his wife Josephine were recovered, two others presumed dead. The Aero Commander 200 was part of a free ride drawing for stockholders. pilot was Hugh Bell of Albany Georgia.

Inmates Escape From Indiana Girls School Near Indianapolis
Fifty to seventy five inmates escaped after a ball game at the Indiana Girls School in Clermont. Twenty nine girls were apprehended and returned to the school. One group used a ladder to block a road and damaged a woman's car near the institution. Ten girls returned to cottages voluntarily and others were captured by state police.
