Senate approves caucus bill changes in Illinois
The Illinois Senate Sunday approved changes to allow political parties to select nominees for vacated county seats instead of requiring special primaries. The measure H3844, sponsored by Sen. Prescott Bloom, would let counties choose between special primaries or party committee nominee selection this year. The bill also ends precinct splitting on county board borders and reduces election staffing needs. Governor Dana Walker had previously refused to sign a similar bill.

Lettuce Spill Closes I 80 Lanes In Illinois Crash
A semi truck spilled lettuce after losing control on I 80 three miles west of Illinois 47 at 6 30 am. Driver Ervin Lantzer 28 of Wyoming Michigan was slightly injured. The R & R Trucking Co truck was towed away by Merle Morris of Joliet. Morris Fire Department washed the road at 7 10 am.

Woman Injured In Illinois River Boat Collision
An Aurora woman suffered leg injuries after an Illinois River incident near Stratton Park at 7 30 p m. Richard Sutkus of Oaklawn 48 was charged with disorderly conduct and reckless operation after two 18 foot boats racing behind a 26 foot cabin cruiser caused a crash that destroyed Sutkus boat valued at 3000 dollars. Sutkus posted bond and appeared due July 15 while Perry Peacock 28 Addison faced no damage to his boat.

Winds Toss Trees Across Grundy County in Storm
High winds Sunday night and today toppled at least three trees in Grundy County. A tree blocked Illinois 47 near K and K Well Drilling at 8 39 p.m. Sunday with traffic directed by Sgt Tim Neary and Deputy James Hume until removal. A second tree blocked Illinois 47 two miles north of Interstate 55 reported at 5 44 a.m. today by the Coffeehouse in Dwight. A tree at Lynn Street end in South Wilmington knocked down power lines and prompted notifications to Commonwealth Edison and the South Wilmington Fire Department. Continuous wind gusts reached 38 mph in Morris at 8 04 p.m. with 0 21 inches of rain and 0 31 inches total. ESDA monitored storm progress for two hours Sunday night. no severe weather warnings were issued.
