New Principal Hired For Shabbona School
The Grundy County board appointed Bernard Keating 37 of Downers Grove as principal of Shabbona School starting July 19 on a 10 month schedule with pay of 15700 plus 100 travel and prorated one month this year. Keating, formerly assistant principal at Oak Lawn Alsip District 126, has taught grades four through eight and served in Army service. Also hired was Mrs. Joe McNulty as school nurse for 8200 and a new librarian. bids for a safety survey were reviewed and two firms were referred to the architect. the board will advise First Baptist Church Morris on classroom use and granted Wix travel pay increases.

Driver Hurt in U-Haul Trailer Crash Near Mazon Illinois
A Kokomo man, John O. Haladay, 27, drove a U-Haul that broke loose on Illinois 47 two miles south of Mazon. The trailer overturned injuring no one seriously. Haladay was ticketed for improper safety chains and taken to St Mary’s Hospital Streator. A Crystal Lake driver, Stephen Denker, 18, was involved when his car struck the trailer. both drivers declined medical care. The trailer towed to Don's Service Center in Mazon. Haladay's court date was set for next Monday.

Fire destroys horse barn at Barry Lauwers farm south of Yorkville
Bristol Kendall Fire Department responded at 2 a.m. to a fire four miles south of Yorkville on Walker Road. A 100 foot metal shed and a horse barn burned. Mr and Mrs Lauwers were away on vacation with two horses. Neighbors fear one horse died. Cause under investigation.

Former Morris resident hurt in Dan Ryan crash near Chicago
A 46 year old former Morris resident Donald Parker of Bourbonnais was listed in fairly good condition at St Marys Hospital in Kankakee after his car struck a bridge abutment on the Dan Ryan Expressway Friday evening. Parker was enroute to Evanston to pick up his wife when the accident occurred and was transferred from Chicago to the Kankakee hospital. He is in Room 269.

Boy Drowns Near Yorkville After River Fall
A 2 year old Aurora boy named Brian Kackert drowned Sunday after falling into the Fox River north of Yorkville in Kendall County. His parents were with him when the accident happened during a storm. He was rushed to Sandwich Hospital where he died on arrival. inquest to be scheduled. Coroner Everett McKeown had no information yet.
