Carbon Hill homecoming begins with week of events
Carbon Hill hosts its 23rd annual homecoming starting Wednesday with a midway, a new 24 by 36 foot pavilion to house a beer garden, modernized restrooms and upgraded lights. Activities include softball contests, fast pitch games, playoffs, a Sunday parade, a 7 000 foot skymasters drop and local baseball exhibitions. Funds support village services and a new village hall cost eight thousand dollars.

Seneca youth dies after kidney transplant failure
Stephen H. Nelson, 18, of 165 South Main Street Seneca, died at 5 15 a m in Passavant Hospital Chicago after his donor kidney failed and was removed on May 18. He was born October 28 1953 in Ottawa and was a 1971 Seneca High School graduate. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p m at Our Savior Lutheran Church Seneca with burial at Oakwood Memorial Park Ottawa. Visitation follows Wednesday at Osborne Pfeffer Funeral Home.

Accidental shooting injures Carbon Hill man in town
Mike Grim of 301 2 W Mulberry St Carbon Hill suffered a bullet wound to his right foot while trying to retrieve a gun from inside a car. The incident occurred Sunday at 10 50 a m in Carbon Hill. Grim was listed in good condition at St Joseph Hospital Joliet after transport by Coal City Emergency Squad. Witness Barney DeGrush of Carbon Hill stated Grim dropped the .22 caliber magnum causing it to discharge. Deputy Dennis Neary investigated for Grundy County sheriff's office.

A gold 1966 Oldsmobile Delta four door loaned to County Clerk Tom Parks was stolen from Belletini's parking lot Saturday and recovered at 2 43 a m Sunday by District No 1A state police in Pecatonica with a youth who had escaped from the Joliet Illinois Youth Commission. Credit cards and a check book were not reported recovered. A doctor’s office break in on Broadway Street and McArdle Road yielded no forcible entry or losses.
