Sorensen cited climbing building costs as the reason for higher tax assessments. He gave examples from 1957 to 1967 showing how a $15,000 house would cost about $22,000 now and how depreciation would affect the final assessment. He stressed the board of review sets taxbooks but the Department of Revenue determines assessment factors.
