Senate House clash delays veterans education checks over railroad funds
Washington dispute stalls a $15 billion supplemental bill over rail rehabilitation money. The Senate seeks 175 million for rail work to create and sustain jobs, while the House offers 5 million planning funds, delaying education benefit checks for up to 50,000 veterans and risking unemployment payments for many more. The fight centers on using public funds to repair private railroads and revive contractors.
