A surprise party Tuesday night at Drake's Farm Restaurant honored Rollin Bargo Goose Lake Township highway commissioner 41 years and two local retirees Mrs. Walter Phillips and Arthur Lyons. About 130 attendees praised Bargo and others as neighbors recalled long-time service amid local changes with power plants and a nuclear facility nearby. Tributes by Carkhuff and former residents highlighted family roots on White Tie and Collins roads plus echoes of Israel Dudgeon's political past.

Morris youth drowns when car goes into Mazon River
Edward Lawson 18 of Morris drowned after his 1975 Chevrolet Camaro left Pine Bluff Road and plunged into the Mazon River at about 12 50 a m. The body was recovered around 5 a m after searches by Grundy County deputies Morris police and firemen. An inquest will be held later.

Cargill seeks new trial in medical malpractice case
Lockport resident Bobby Cargill asked Thirteenth Circuit Judge Leonard Hoffman for a new trial against Dr. Farid Afra of the Tratt Clinic. He alleges the May 10 Grundy County jury verdict was against the manifest weight of the evidence after a six day trial that yielded no damages in the $100 000 suit over negligent treatment at Morris Hospital after a July 18 1973 car crash near the White Willow Cafe.
