Edison delays AEC hearing over unavailable panel member

Commonwealth Edison postpones presenting an environmental impact study at the Atomic Energy Commission hearing for a proposed LaSalle County nuclear plant four miles south and southwest of Seneca and Marseilles. The project features two 1,100 MW units and a 2,970 acre cooling lake.

Car Crashes Near Illinois 47 Leave Driver Critical

Bobby Lynn Cargill 30 of Lockport is in Morris Hospital in critical condition after a high speed crash at the Illinois 47 and White Willow Road intersection. Witnesses described a multi-vehicle sequence that included a culvert plunge and cafe lot impact near White Willow Cafe. The Honda Civic was left upside down in the cafe owner’s front yard as emergency crews freed the driver.

Mardian testifies on Watergate cover up role

Former Assistant Attorney General Robert C. Mardian told the Senate Watergate committee he became involved in the cover up out of lawyer ethics and client confidentiality. He said he learned of the wiretapping story after the June 17, 1972 Democratic headquarters break in and defended his actions as a lawyer not a political ally.

Morris Board dismisses teacher after executive session

The Morris Community High School Board voted to dismiss Judy Heifner from her duties as a girls physical education teacher after an executive session. Five board members approved the dismissal citing failure to meet the district’s professional growth policy.

Nixon to attend White House staff conferences Friday

President Nixon, recovered from viral pneumonia, will leave Bethesda Naval Hospital Friday morning for White House meetings with Kissinger and aides. He will postpone Camp David until Friday afternoon, aiming to resume full duties Monday. The final chest X-ray showed pneumonia resolved and he progresses.
