Extension in Grundy County Faces Budget Shortfall

Farm Advisor Al Pilch announced at a media briefing that Grundy County Extension Service will operate on a deficit budget starting July 1. Reduced Farm Bureau funding leaves a gap of about 5 300 dollars of an 8 015 dollar budget. The service may seek county appropriations, fund raising, or a tax levy referendum. The extension supports 4 H, youth programs, and serves one third farm, one third towns, one third Morris, acting as a University of Illinois resource center.

The U S Weather Bureau predicts tonight will be fair with a low in the lower 60s and Saturday sunny with a high near 80. The Collins Weather Station logged 87 degrees and 63 the prior day with 0.03 inches of rain at 10 40 a m. Two 4-H'ers Crowned Grundy County 4-H Royalty

Dale Burkhart of Goodfarm Township and Shirley Drechsel of Dwight were chosen as Miss and Mr. Grundy County 4-H at the annual fair. Six contestants competed with talent, poise, personality, and health judged. Burkhart and Drechsel sang as part of their entries.

Scouts Injured in Nighttime Accident After Ceremony

Two Kankakee area Boy Scouts were injured when their 1956 Ford left Pine Bluff Road near Gas Light Village and overturned at 11 30 p m returning from the Order of the Arrow Call Out Ceremony at Morris Boy Scout Reservation. Dennis Stevens 19 Bradey faced facial lacerations burns and bruises while Mark Carrino 13 suffered a left arm cut. others were treated and released.

Improvements to Power Facilities in Morris

A Commonwealth Edison spokesman said electrical service was interrupted today from 12 30 to 3 p m in Morris north and west sections to improve facilities and provide better service. Mechanical work occurred in five operations with each interruption under 30 minutes. Areas affected included west of Wauponsee St north and south of U S 6 and north on McKinley St both sides of U S 6.

Grundy County 4-H Fair Opens July 27 At Mazon Grounds

The eighth annual Grundy County 4-H Show begins July 27 at the Mazon Fair Grounds with over 750 4-H members expected. Shirley Drechse and Dale Burkhart are named Miss and Mr Grundy County 4-H. The event includes the county keeping fit field day, judging in cattle, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits, and home economics divisions, a tractor operator contest, and a grandstand show with the Shindig revue followed by an ice cream social and dance.
