Hanoi ambassador Xuan Thuy said the U.S. delegate refused to give a serious response to the Viet Cong peace plan and blocked progress by not setting a withdrawal date for U.S. forces, accusing Washington of deception.
A coroner's jury ruled May 9 county traffic death of Mrs. Billy Everett due to injuries from a four vehicle crash four miles south of Morris at about 12:45 a.m. Cars involved included drifted Buick Skylark driven by Mrs Everett, the Olsen Mustang, Ness sedan and Harseim coupe. Narrative testimony covered sequence, vehicle positions, paint matches, and damaged fenders as deputies mapped the scene.
Morris Planning Commission approved tentative Parklake Village proposals for 424 housing units to be built northeast of Lisbon Road and George Street. Recommendation to City Council includes street water and sewer review, park land acquisition, and keeping a proposed Lisbon Road lake inside the development.
Traffic counts conducted by the Ottawa district of the Illinois Division of Highways show peaks near High Street. District engineer Robert Blasius said data will guide where turning lanes or signals may be warranted. Counters placed over two weeks aim to map turning movements as Morris officials attend a Wednesday meeting to discuss state highway plans with Blasius and staff. A public hearing on the upgrade is expected in late September or early October.
Storms end tonight with partly cloudy, cooler and less humid conditions and a low in the mid 60s. Friday brings sun and a high in the mid 80s. Wednesday peaked at 89 and a 68 low at Dresden Island Locks and Dam. At 7 am the temperature was 73 with .07 inches of precipitation recorded.

He contends Powell commingled public and private funds, pointing to cash hidden in a Springfield hotel room and other assets. The case names the estate and executor John Rendleman, with the state seeking funds believed to belong to the public.

A two car collision on U S 6 near the Northern Petrochemical plant east of Morris at 4 15 p m Wednesday sent Thomas L Resutke 29 of Lockport and a man identified as Robert A Vance a Northern Petrochemical guard to Morris Hospital. Resutke ticketed for failure to yield at a stop sign and will appear in court July 21. Deputy Evert Poyner and Charles Marketti investigated. John A Carr 36 of Seneca drove the other car, his Plymouth sustained front end damage while Resutke s Volkswagen had extensive damage and was towed from the scene.
A severe thunderstorm with 50 mile per hour winds struck the Chicago area during rush hour, interrupting elevated service, flooding viaducts, and causing extensive property damage. A brick chimney fell on a two story building killing 2 year old Lawrence Kelly and injuring his sister Wanda 3. Mercy Hospital treated over 25 injured from glass and other injuries. Downtown displays at Carson Pirie Scott C D Peacock and others shattered as windows blew out.
