Nine arrested in $465000 munitions smuggling scheme
Federal agents report arrests of nine individuals in a Cuba bound munitions smuggling ring stretching from New York to Louisiana Texas and Mexico. Nearly seven tons of C4 explosives were seized from a DC4 transport at Shreveport. U S Attorney Gerald Gallinghouse says officials believe the munitions were destined for Cuba. The plot involved multiple suspects including Marion Hegler and others. A rental plane carried the explosives from Hammond to Shreveport before transfer to a van and dispersal at the site.

Gardner woman hospitalized after rollover accident
A Gardner woman JoAnn Bastounes 26 and her two children were taken to St Joseph Hospital Joliet after a white convertible forced her 1964 Ford station wagon off Broadway Road just south of Reed Road. Bastounes had shoulder and arm injuries and facial cuts while five year old Michelle appeared uninjured. Peter 14 months had bruises.

Minooka Names Satorius as New Superintendent
MINOOKA Jack Satorius of St Mary's St Minooka has been appointed Superintendent of Minooka junior high and grade schools at the June Minooka Grade School Board meeting. He has been acting superintendent since last fall when Rex A Siron went on sick leave and Siron retired July 1. Satorius has led the Minooka Grade School for 10 years after 21 years in local teaching and administration across several Iowa Illinois districts.

Suspect Arson Suspected In Coal City Diner Fire
A fire at the Boodlers Drive-in west of Coal City destroyed 65 to 70 percent of the building after 2 45 a.m. Officials said a window removal suggested arson. Arthur Trotter noted no money or vending machines were disturbed and a state fire marshal representative investigated early Monday.
