Supervisor Jeanette Crossland says field work for the Morris special census is nearly completed. Residents who fear they were not counted should fill the form and mail it to the special census office, after which records will be checked. Forms after her departure will go to Washington.
A new petition filed by Atty. William Penn at the Will Educational Service Region in Joliet requests 4100 acres south and east of the Des Plaines River be moved from Joliet High School district to Minooka High School district. Petitioners include parents of two MHS tuition students who wish their children to attend the same high school as their Chan nahon grade school friends. A hearing date was tentatively set for February 16.
Morris police investigate arson at a garage at 1123 Liberty St and two vandalism incidents. A juvenile is being questioned. no petition filed. Fire damaged metal items, melted pans, and caused a window break at a nearby business. A separate theft case was dismissed in circuit court. Carleton Liljegren, 27, of Elk Grove, died when his car left the road near Plainfield.
The Grundy County Zoning Board of Appeals will convene at 7 30 p m Tuesday in the courthouse first floor courtroom to hear two cases. Mr and Mrs Robert Cohenour seek to change Bedford Road property near Union St from residential to manufacturing status. Jerema Burt and Mrs Ethel Gregoire request a ruling on whether a one acre residence site west of Morris on U S 6 in Nettle Creek Township may be a non conforming multiple family use.
President Nixon delivers a $246.3 billion fiscal 1973 budget showing deficits of $38.8 billion this year and $25.5 billion next. He says deficit spending is necessary in slack times, pushes for space and health and education funding, and seeks workfare reforms amid a shifting priority from defense to welfare programs.
The Illinois Supreme Court ordered DuPage County to hold county board elections separate from the March 21 state and national primary and November general ballots. The order follows a pattern from similar consolidation cases, with primary on February 8 and county board general on April 4.
Police issued warrants for Colin Brooks 18 and Steve Szobar about 20 on aggravated assault and deceptive practice charges. The two allegedly threatened Brooks with a knife at his home Friday evening as Brooks’s brother, Larry, signed the complaints.
Joliet Junior College Satellite Center courses accept late enrollments from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Morris Community High School library. Openings exist in English courses GED classes and Business Law II for end of month starts.
Under a new state law Grundy County faces a February 8 primary and an April 4 final election for county board seats. The change creates a new elected county board for township counties. township government remains intact. The old assistant supervisor post ends May 1, when the new board takes office on the first Monday in May.
The Grundy County board plans a six member per district structure totaling 18 seats with districts defined by townships. After the February primary, six Democrats and six Republicans, or fewer if filings are short, will appear on the final ballot in each district. Incumbents include Earl H. Bingham, a Morris townships farmer and former assistant supervisor, and Wallace Bud Burroughs, with extensive local service and farm background. Continued on page 7.
