Conference on expanding storage at Dresden
A prehearing conference on amendments to permit storage of spent nuclear fuel at Dresden No 1 and two units at the Quad Cities nuclear power station is set for 10 am February 1 in Room 2502 of the U S Courthouse and Federal Building Chicago. Midwest snowstorm spurs blizzard warnings and school closures
A new winter storm spread snow from the Rockies into the upper Midwest and brought blizzard conditions to Texas and Kansas. Minnesota saw six to eight inches with more than 50 schools closed. Canby and Marshall reported eight inches with wind gusts to 30 mph and drifts over two feet. Minneapolis-St Paul faced four inches and heavy traffic snarls. South Dakota highways closed as four inches fell. Blizzard warnings covered the Texas Panhandle and south central Kansas. eastern Iowa was near-blizzard, with winter storm warnings extending to Michigan and Indiana. In Colorado, Denver measured four to six inches as I-70 closures occurred near Limon due to 45 mph winds. Cold air behind the system dropped temps below zero across the northern Midwest by Wednesday morning.
