Tug Service Will Operate Despite Fire

The Morris Marine Services Inc tug D prepared for duty today despite a Friday fire damage to the forward cabin. Captain Donald Crowder said engines tested after the blaze showed they still operate. damage estimated at 2000 to 3000 dollars. The tug, docked on the Illinois Waterway near the ADM elevator, lost cabin steel, extinguishers, a welding machine, hoses, and more. Crowder fought the fire solo until Morris Fire Department arrived. diesel tanks nearby did not ignite. Cause undetermined though welding or electrical equipment were possible sources. Insurance likely not covering due to high deductibles. The service, formed last fall, shifts barges and vessels for local firms.

Traces of Radioactivity Found in Spain

Spanish physicians checking wreckage recovery personnel found slight traces of radioactivity among several civil guards. Officials suspect a nuclear device from the crash spread a minimal amount of radioactivity. The devices were transported to U.S. 16th Air Force headquarters at Torrejon near Madrid.

Washington AP reports plans to launch two Tiros Operational Satellites from Cape Kennedy Florida three weeks apart to provide local daily cloud pictures and global cloud coverage.
