Plan approval for third addition to Hatcher Woods Subdivision

Morris Planning Commission approved a preliminary plat for the third addition to Hatcher Woods in Morris. The 30.4 acre plan creates 17 lots ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 acres with three entrances and one main road to minimize tree disturbance estimated at 25 trees. Owners include James Baum and others. Final school district approval awaits Grundy County board. an $8,000 school site donation is offered. Also approved were a final Southmor Rd subdivision and a public hearing for rezoning Michael Cheshareck's Illinois Ave property. Public hearing set for Feb 15.

Youth allegedly killed in Earlville shooting

A 15 year old, Robert Gerard, died at Sandwich Hospital at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday from a gunshot wound to the head. The youth was found injured on a street in Earlville Wednesday night and transported to the hospital. The finder was not identified. DeKalb County Coroner William Sullivan ordered an autopsy. Investigating officers are LaSalle County Sheriff's Capt. Bill Dummett and Lt. Herb Klein.

Winter Storm Warning and Heavy Snow Forecast

A winter storm warning and forecast call for snow accumulation up to three inches in Ches. Temperatures will linger in the low 20s with highs in the 20s. Dresden Island Locks and Dam reported Wednesday high of 13 degrees and a low of 5, while today at 7 am Morris measured 13 degrees and at 10 am 14 degrees.

Benson files for first ward alderman seat election

Kenneth R. Benson of 42412 W Washington St filed his petition Wednesday for candidacy in the first ward aldermanic race, per City Clerk Marjorie Warren. Two petitions were withdrawn from the clerk's office. The filing deadline is noon January 21. A special election to fill John Maunder's vacancy will be held March 21.

Nettle Creek Rezoning Hearing Before Appeals Board

Sixth oil tanker runs aground off east coast this week

New York, UPI. An Exxon tanker Monticello Victory carrying about 14.7 million gallons of No 6 heating oil grounded at Gravesend Bay near Coney Island around 3 30 a m but was refloated with cargo intact. It was the sixth vessel to go aground off the eastern coast since the weekend.

Saratoga board sets nominating procedures meeting

The Saratoga Grade School Board will authorize publication of school board nominating procedures at its 7:30 p.m. meeting on Tuesday at the school. Petitions are filed with secretary Louise Button from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, February 22 to March 17. Other items include a request from Mrs. Margie Maunder for one week of personal leave in February, appointment of a negotiating committee, and transfer of investment funds for January payroll and bills. Supt. Robert Chord plans to recommend tabling the purchase of lockers until next year due to costs for the new garage.

Morris Community High approves 25500 athletic director pay

Morris Community High School board approves an athletic director salary of 25500 for a ten month contract. The vote followed a 40 minute discussion and an attempt to reorganize by eliminating the position. Ferguson to retire. three candidates to be interviewed by Superintendent Sutter. Moving expenses denied, swimming teacher position authorized with nine month start and ongoing search.

Jury awards $32,500 for Illinois 47 property

A Grundy County jury awarded Joseph Giglietti of Joliet $32,500 for a vacant 7,200 square foot lot at the southwest corner of Jackson and Division streets, condemned by the Illinois DOT for Illinois 47 improvements. The case centered on fair market value as of December 15, 1975 with appraisals ranging from about $25,400 to $52,000.

Caretaker Quizzed on Brach Heiress Will

Jack Matlick, the last person seen Helen Vorhees Brach, testifies in a sworn deposition he is not named in the will. He says the main beneficiaries are her brother Charles Vorhees and animal welfare groups, estate valued at about $21 million, while he handed a copy to police. He also says he and Vorhees burned diaries and psychic writings. Brach disappeared Feb 21 after leaving for O'Hare to fly to Florida. no clues found.

Morris Driver Licensing Office Closed For MLK Jr Birthday

The Morris driver's license office at 111 E. Illinois Ave will be closed from Friday night through Monday in observance of Dr Martin Luther King Jr birthday and reopen Tuesday morning. Driver services facilities outside Cook County routinely close on Mondays.

Minooka Board Hears Plant Redesign Plans

Minooka village board received a report from village engineer Gerald Thompson on nearly finished designs for redesigning the sewage treatment plant and collection system. Plans to meet with officials and seek state approval were outlined with bids expected to open in March.
