Evanston Hospital reports the Baer quintuplets born Friday to James and Lynn Baer of Northbrook are progressing. The firstborn Even Thomas Allen, previously with respiratory issues, is fed orally and receives oxygen only occasionally. The babies were moved from Highland Park Hospital to Evanston, a center for premature infants, while the father shuttled between hospitals. Dr. Melvin Cohen of Fertility Institute Ltd. noted daily Perganol treatment before pregnancy and limited details beyond general outcomes.

Morris Community High Board to Inspect New Lockers

The Morris Community High School board will inspect the installation of new lockers at the January meeting starting at 7 30 p m in the administrative offices. Copter aids police in rooftop siege over New Orleans hotel

In a night of heavy gunfire against snipers on the Downtown Howard Johnson Hotel roof, a Marine Sikorsky helicopter provided a gun platform for police sharpshooters. After 20 passes, they found several bullet holes but no major damage and finally forced a bunker breach with AR15 fire.

Escape from Mount Vernon jail ends in recapture

Three inmates used a ruse to get a guard to open a cell door at Jefferson County Jail in Mount Vernon Illinois. They overpowered the guard. Sheriff Dayton Harlan was struck and his wife aided in the surrender. Capps, 28, began a three to six year sentence for armed robbery at Menard State Prison. Deimer, 26, was captured soon after for parole violation in Arkansas. Styles, 34, was found hours later in an asphalt office while awaiting transfer from Kentucky. A fourth inmate, 17, George Jones, was released on recognizance after aiding the escape and is charged with theft.

Store Owner Reports Theft of Pistol from Coast to Coast

John D. Strickland owner of the Coast to Coast Store at 320 Liberty St reported to Morris police at 11:35 a.m. Saturday that a Hawes six shot .22 caliber revolver was stolen from his shop during the holidays.

Morris Grade School Board Agenda Sets Life Safety and Special Ed Meeting

The Morris Grade School Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin School to review life safety work and an executive special education meeting. Hearings Set for Pine Village Steak House Murder Suspects
