Grundy County Sheriff's reports weekend crashes injuring four. Ronald Elberts 21 Coal City treated at Morris Hospital released after a two car collision at Illinois 113 and Berra Rd. Linda McGuire 49 Braceville and Leeda Mudd 63 Braceville treated at St. Joseph Joliet and released. Elberts cited for going too fast for conditions and to appear Jan. 13. Another one car crash on Tabler Rd sent Benjamin Crow 35 Rockdale to St. Joseph Joliet. Crow treated and released. A third crash on Rice Rd injured William Waltrop 18 Central City who was cited for going too fast for conditions. Waltrop bonded and to appear Jan. 27.

At 4 55 a m a man robbed Ned's Standard Station on I 80 and Minooka taking 250 from the cash register. Attendant Zvone was forced into the trunk but freed himself after the suspect left. Police described the suspect as 5 11 with a mustache in a blue parka and light pants.

Inmates sue over cruel Stateville conditions
Two inmates at Stateville prison in Joliet filed a class action in Will County Circuit Court naming Warden Dave Brierton and IDOC acting director Charles Rowe. The suit cites overcrowding un sanitary conditions and lack of showers and religious services in E-house and seeks an injunction to halt placing more inmates there until improvements are made.

Brookfield fire kills five children in sleep tragedy
A Brookfield house fire claimed five children as they slept on the second floor. Their mother Yvonne Fanta 33 suffered serious burns over 50 percent of her body. The Chicago area has seen a surge of fire deaths since December 24.

Stolen items valued over $1600 from Lincoln Lake home burglary
In Grundy County last week a Lincoln Lake Subdivision residence owned by Robert Bentel was burglarized between Tuesday and Sunday. A window and multiple doors were pried, telephone lines cut, and items including a Mercury boat motor, Zenith TV, trolling motor, fishing gear, mini bike, chain saw, radios, gas tanks, snowmobile suit, binoculars, whiskey, and an electric can opener were stolen. Deputy Paul Estensen reported the loss and damage.

In Geneva Illinois cold ground delayed a four site search for 14 year old Barbara Glueckert last seen after a rock concert near Huntley in August. Authorities linked to San Francisco suspect Thomas Urlacher who was arrested there and returned to Illinois on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A letter in Urlacher's SF apartment hinted at a burial but he denied involvement.

Dryer Fire Destroys Corn at ADM Grain Elevator
ADM Grain elevator fire damages about 400 bushels of corn valued at $500. Manager Melvin Bunton found the blaze in a grain dryer at 9:30 a.m. and fire crews returned later when corn jammed in the dryer reignited the flames. The Morris Fire Department fought the blaze until 9:15 p.m. with unknown cause and no active drying that Sunday.

Sheridan Man Injured in Head on Collision
Stanley Norwich, 60, of Sheridan, was injured in a Sunday 9 p.m. head on crash on U.S. 52 at County Line Road in Will and Kendall counties. He was treated at Sandwich Hospital in good condition. Norwich crossed the center line and collided with Wanda McHugh of Sheridan, who was uninjured. Norwich was cited for improper lane usage. Vehicles were towed to Gordon's Body Shop in Newark.
