Nearly 350 Amtrak Passengers Stranded Near Galesburg
Nearly 350 passengers aboard Amtrak No. 5 on the westbound San Francisco Zephyr were stranded overnight near Galesburg Illinois due to severe cold and flat spots on locomotive wheels. With four locomotives short and three needing steam generators heating the cars the train paused in a heated siding. About 67 boarded buses to Denver while roughly 280 stayed aboard for meals and warmth as conditions cooled to near zero.

Vandalism at Vietnamese Refugee Home Under Investigation
Morris police investigated Wednesday night vandalism at a Vietnamese refugee family residence. A window was broken and a tire iron used. two cars outside held seven youths. A second incident damaged multiple windows as five or more youths reportedly attacked after a recreation hall altercation.
