U S B52 raids along the Cambodian border intensify as a three day Viet Cong cease fire nears. Saigon reports 29 enemy killed in three clashes and eight Americans wounded.
Winter storm blankets Illinois with heavy snow, halting traffic and closing many schools. Joliet area reports up to six inches with drifting, while Chicago and northeastern regions face 8 to 10 inches and extensive airport delays. Road crews plow and sand as winds shift, and travel warnings remain in effect statewide.
Aldermen vote 8 0 approving a contract with Federal Paper Board to treat its effluent at no cost to the company up to the city water purchased. The agreement sets rates for additional mill waste and includes measures for metering, flow control, surge capacity and possible future sewer work to avert flooding. The pact runs through Jan 1 1971 with annual renegotiation and six months notice by either party.
A pilotless F8J Crusader crash at Miramar Naval Air Station near San Diego killed 11 workers and injured 14 as the 45,000 pound jet, disabled by oil pressure trouble, struck a hangar packed with aircraft and mechanics. Pilot Lt Cyrus Riddell, 27, of San Diego was injured after bailing out at 400 feet.
