Braidwood Man Fined and Jailed for DUI and License Violations

Harold N. Ashley 35 of North School Street was fined 315 and jailed 14 days after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol driving on a suspended license and improper lane usage. The case cited seven days and 200 dollars for the suspension charge seven days and 100 dollars for DUI and 15 dollars for improper lane use.

Two Die in I-80 Crash Near La Salle Illinois

A young Indiana couple died when their car left Interstate 80 near La Salle and overturned. Don G Tillotson of Bloomington and his wife Ann, both 22, were en route to Fulton, Illinois to spend Christmas with relatives.

Tots Die in Blaze

In Gibson City Illinois fire killed two toddlers Artila Marie 2 and Bobby Joe 1 children of Willie and Mrs Davis. A third child playing outside was unharmed. Mrs Davis was away and husband worked. Fire Chief Lysle Pfoff said an oil heating stove likely started the blaze.

Morris Man Hurt as Car Hits House

A Morris man, William Entwistle, 25, was in fair condition at Morris Hospital after his 1966 Pontiac convertible left Pine Bluff Road near Gas-Lite Village on Thursday night. He demolished a 1961 Oldsmobile and damaged a house owned by Robert Warwick, with a second Warwick car in the garage also damaged. Deputy Sheriff Sherman Hexdall investigated.

Car Train Crash Claims Joliet Man Life

Joliet Illinois Henley J Zoetvelt 36 of rural Joliet died when his car collided with a freight train on Laraway Road near Cedar Road in New Lenox Township five miles southeast of Joliet. Will County sheriff's police said the Norfolk and Western train was coupling with box cars on a siding at the time.

Negro Named Director of State Revenue in Illinois

Theodore A. Jones, a prominent Black figure in state government, was named director of the Illinois Department of Revenue, effective January 1, succeeding Marshall Korshak who resigns December 31.
