Coldest stretch hits Grundy County after heavy snow

The cold spell follows the area's biggest snow storm with temperatures sliding from 28 at 7 am to minus 1 by late Thursday night. A 6 am reading showed 2 degrees and Dresden Island Dam recorded 1 degree at 7 am. Temperatures rose to 7 by 10 am and are forecast to reach the low 30s Saturday and around 40 Sunday as winter begins at 7:08 pm.

Probation for Drug Charges for Two Farmington Youths

Ronald C. Brooks and James T. Airola both 19 received one year probation and $500 fines after pleading guilty to illegal possession of 10 to 30 grams of marijuana. If probation is completed without record, the case will be dismissed. Thomas Harty 17 of Algonquin faced charges later dismissed for lack of ownership. Brooks also fined $19 and $5 costs for improper lane usage.

Bechtel Worker Dies of Heart Attack At Construction Site

Harold Boucier, 57, an electrician with the American Bechtel Co., was found dead in his pickup in the company parking lot at the Northern Illinois Gas project on Dresden Road Thursday evening. Coroner says heart condition caused death. body sent to Carlson Funeral Home Joliet with services planned in Danville Monday. Boucier survived by wife Madge, daughter Sharon Ludtke, two stepsons, 12 grandchildren, sister Mrs. Walter Elliott.

Travelers face hazardous Illinois roads in bitter holid ay travel

Interstate 57 near Arcola and Effingham remains closed due to drifting snow with a detour.
