Kendall County Board chairman Robert Cherry released the names of ten standing committees with four members on nine and three on the liquor control committee. New panels include Buildings and grounds, Building and zoning, County officers Personnel and Insurance, Finance and taxation, Forest preserve, Highway, Legislation, Health and animal control, Public Safety, and Liquor control. Also adopted were revised rules of order and holiday dates for 1976. The board honored Tom Fletcher Bicentennial Commission chair and approved offering 806 surplus Kendall History books to the historical society to cover a $1,000 debt.

Trooper Recovers Stolen Rolls Royce in Illinois
District 5 trooper John Perona stopped a stolen 1976 Rolls Royce valued at $48,000 on I 55 near I 80. Howard Pestano Sr. and Jr. were jailed in Will County and will be extradited to Los Angeles to face theft charges for the Palm Springs California case. The car owned by Barbara Eaton Moore was towed to Shorewood after the stop.

Five rabbis killed in Route 30 collision near Downingtown
Five or six people, believed to be rabbis from a New York Jewish order, died when a car crossed a median on Route 30 Bypass near Downingtown and hit a tractor trailer. One person was seriously injured and identities were withheld pending next of kin notification. The group was en route to inspect a kosher plant in Lancaster County. The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. as the car tried to pass the truck in icy conditions.

The Kendall County Board okayed buying five sheriff cars for 24 598 42 from Detzler Pontiac Oswego plus an unmarked investigative vehicle for 4171 50 and two high band radios for 550 from Waubonsee Community College. They offered a 3500 land parcel west of the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District station for sale and approved flashing lights at Fox Road crossings costing 5 000 each. They authorized supplemental highway project appropriations raising Newark Ridge and Plainfield Road costs and approved a local bridge program totaling 300 000 with 188 000 state federal funds and 112 000 local share. Annual reports from county officials were accepted and a dual assessment program for agricultural land was discussed with a December 31 deadline.
