The Grundy County Board unanimously voted to establish a planning director position and form a Planning Commission to qualify for HUD funds. Eugene Sorensen was appointed as planning director. The salary question was referred to the salary and finance committee.
Morris Community High School board reviews old soil borings showing areas undermined by coal mine shafts. A map by Unteen Assoc highlights subsurface conditions potentially raising build costs. Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley unveils a plan to fully own the lake shore and double parkland to 4,000 acres with offshore islands to boost beach facilities. Senator Mann drafts a competing Lake Michigan Bill of Rights restricting lakefront development while Daley denounces the measure.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the V F W in Morris next Tuesday from 11 30 a m to 5 30 p m. The December goal is 135 pints with 55 pints used at Morris Hospital in November. Donors aged 18 65 may give and appointments can be made by calling Morris Hospital at 942 2932.
Children unable to visit Santa in person can call Tela-Santa next Monday through Wednesday December 18 19 and 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. The Morris Jaycees sponsor the service and provide the number 942 0113 for youths to share their Christmas requests with Santa Claus.
The Morris Home Decorating Contest deadline moves to 6 p.m. Monday aided by Grundy County Chamber of Commerce co chairs James Garling and James Provancal. Entrants may enter one category with telephoned entries welcomed and judging set for Dec 18 to 22.
The Minooka Grade School Board adopts a school site policy aligned with Grundy County standards. Superintendent Jack Satorius assigned to county meetings. Gerald Knudson to attend board and association meetings. Contracts awarded for glass replacement to meet fire codes. clocks ordered. new girls athletic program approved. substitute bus driver Don Peterson hired. snowmobiles banned on school grounds.
County officials approved quarterly payments totaling 6394.72 for board members. Each member is paid 20 per day for meetings and committee sessions with individual sums listed for each name including travel allowances where applicable.
Kendall County Board approved zoning changes for Hillside Nursing Home at U S 4 and Game Farm Road owned by Robert Mahoney. The board also amended health department rules to regulate wells and septic systems and set budget actions including IMRF credits and salary raises for jail staff and courthouse workers.
