YORKVILLE The Kendall County Zoning Board of Appeals approved Tony Bassak request to rezone about five acres on Legion Road from A I to R II for single family use. He plans to sell three residential lots and reserve one for himself.
Weather forecast shows tonight much colder with fair skies and a patch from Dresden Island Locks. A board finds forestry and farming land suitable for current agriculture zoning and recommends a covenant to maintain a private road fence and no-access strip for two adjoining lots before Kendall County Board action.
In Ottawa Illinois a slag heap collapsed into a six foot deep hole injuring Robert Ralston and killing John J. Nicholson both 23 and 22 respectively. Nicholson of Downers Grove was pronounced dead at the scene. Ralston was listed in stable condition. Both men worked for a firm contracted to Material Services Co. to do construction at MSC’s plant.
Nearly 300 Democratic lawmakers visited Carter at Blair House to share views on next year’s legislative agenda. Speaker O'Neill urged a cautious approach to any tax cut, favoring postponement until after Christmas spending figures. Carter met governors, businessmen, and transition teams, then planned Pentagon briefings and talks with Rumsfeld and Scowcroft before returning to Plains.
UPI reports Judge Joseph Kinneary denied a preliminary injunction to halt Ohio certification of Carter electors. Carter leads Ford by 0.3 percent amid claims of voter irregularities. a Saturday hearing will consider merits of voiding the results. Brown signed certification cards for 25 Ohio electors to vote Monday.
Gary Gilmore, in a fourth week of refusing food, demands a telephone talk with his fiancée Nicole Barrett and asks newspapers to relay his love. He says he will not eat until denied contact is lifted while trials proceed on a second murder charge.
A White Plains jury acquitted Dominic Byrne and Mel Patrick Lynch of kidnapping Seagram heir Samuel Bronfman II for 2.3 million in ransom but found them guilty of grand larceny. Sentencing on the grand larceny conviction is set for January 6 by State Supreme Court Justice George Beisheim.

Minooka Grade School Board approves a December round robin junior high basketball tournament with eight heavyweight and four light weight teams and a wrestling entry at Joliet Boys Club. Building repairs at the junior high occur during Christmas vacation.
Value of items stolen exceeds $700. A 357 magnum, a 25 caliber pistol, a 19 inch color TV, a cassette recorder, a clock, and an AM FM radio were taken. Entry occurred after a broken porch door window. deputies found signs of rummaging in multiple rooms.
The EPA orders Chrysler Corp to recall 208000 1975 model cars across seven models including Cordoba Newport Fury Grand Fury Monaco Charger and Coronet due to improper carburetor design and adjustment. The recall targets vehicles not meeting 15 grams per mile carbon monoxide standards, with misadjustments occurring in use and at both dealer and non dealer service facilities.

Two Northern Illinois University students crashed through eighth floor elevator doors in a dormitory and fell 65 feet to the top of the first floor. David White aged 19 of Chicago was in critical condition as Robert Puchalski aged 22 of Calumet City died of head injuries.
Two Newark residents suffered minor injuries in a one car accident at 12 45 a m north of Morris Illinois 47 100 feet south of Minooka Road Mrs Jacqueline Brooks 23 Newark and Erica Brooks 3 Newark were treated at the scene for cuts after the car skidded 200 feet into a ditch and struck a tree The 1968 Chevrolet driven by Mrs Brooks had about 900 dollars damage and was towed from the scene by Romines Standard There was no report of treatment for either occupant
