Morris Community High School will place the boys locker room overhaul near the top of priorities, with concerns about theft and clothing loss. Trustees also approve bus trips, budget steps, and temp staff pay rules while planning gas conversion and future safety work.
High altitude Indian bombers struck the Moslem Mission home in Dacca at 3 15 a m killing 17 people and leaving many boys missing. The 300 boys and 100 girls ages 7 to 16 lived with 100 staff and doctors Slims. The founder Mohammed Rahman described the scene as rescue workers cleared wreckage amid mud and debris.
Edwin M. Mortell a Kankakee attorney announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for state representative from the 43rd District. He is a 33 year old veteran of the Air Force judge advocate corps and member of several bar associations. Mortell and his wife Carolyn reside in Kankakee with their three sons. The 43rd district spans Ford Grundy Iroquois and Kankakee counties plus parts of Will and Champaign counties.
The Army dismisses murder and assault charges against Brig. Gen. John W. Donaldson over the 1968 69 slayings of six Vietnamese civilians. He commanded the Americal Division's 11th Infantry Brigade in Vietnam when the killings alleged to have occurred. General Lt. Gen. Claire E. Hutchin Jr. ordered the dismissal citing unspecified basis. Donaldson serves as special assistant to the 1st Army chief of staff.

Sangamon County grand jury charges Sen. Bernard Neistein and former Sen. Everett Peters with official misconduct and ethics violations related to reporting shares in state regulated race tracks. Both face three indictments and potential fines or prison terms. Peters denied knowing how to plead.
Gary Lee Boyles, 17, was found mentally incompetent to stand trial for the September 12 and August 1 Streator murders of Maxine Coley and Emma Trout. He will be treated at the Illinois Security Hospital in Chester until fit for trial, then returned to LaSalle County.
Ralph Johnson Bunche 67 longtime UN official and 1950 Nobel Peace Prize winner died in New York Hospital at 12 40 a.m. after months of illness. He helped mediate the 1949 Palestine War and later oversaw UN operations in the Congo and helped deploy the UN Emergency Force after the Suez crisis.
A 24 year old South Wilmington man, Terry Bresley, escaped injury when his 1966 Chevrolet Impala slid off Illinois 47 to avoid a semi, knocking down six fence posts. Damage estimated at 600 dollars and the car towed to Olson's Arco. At Diamond, 33 year old Louie Marie Bush backed into a 1970 Buick Electra driven by Richard Kouba. damages not listed.
